The High Quality Workforce (HQW) programme arose from the Darzi review of the NHS – “Our NHS - Our Future – The Next Stage Review” which set out to present a vision for how the NHS should change to meet the demands of 21st century healthcare provision.
Embedded within this is the acknowledged need for improvements in the way our workforce is planned, educated and developed over time to ensure effective care provision: the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
The High Quality Workforce programme was set up to build the necessary structures and systems to achieve this.
The outcome of the programme has been a reform of the way we plan and develop our workforce in the East Midlands, and of the systems supporting the way we commission and provide education. We aim to create an education system driven by service need, producing a workforce with the right skills, knowledge and behaviours to deliver future services.
