Jointly accountable to the Strategic Health Authority and the Department of Health, the Directorate’s primary objective is to ensure sustained improvements in the public health and wellbeing of the population in the East Midlands, with specific attention to the needs of disadvantaged and vulnerable people. David Walker is the Director of Public Health.
These are achieved by establishing effective regional partnerships which will support joint work between all regional agencies and stakeholders responsible for health and wellbeing, a situation reflected at local level between local authorities, NHS, business, academic and the voluntary and community sectors.
Key roles for the Directorate are to:

The Public Health Directorate also has lead responsibility for Emergency Planning both for the NHS East Midlands and for NHS organisations across the region.
