The structure chart for the Strategic Information Management and Technology Directorate can be found at the foot of this page.

The Strategic Information Management and Technology (IM&T) directorate is active in influencing the national agenda for the NHS National Programme for Information Technology (NPfIT) whilst supporting local NHS organisations.  To this end, the directorate has a role in ensuring appropriate implementation of these services thus ensuring that they are exploited to the full in the delivery of modern patient-focussed care. Dave Marsden is the Director of Strategic IM&T.

In implementing this agenda alongside local initiatives in relation to planning, exploitation, benefit realisation, clinical engagement and delivering NPfIT from an information technology viewpoint, the directorate aims to ensure these services are for the benefit of patients.

In planning to provide an NHS care record service, which will allow patient information to be available to support patient care at the point of that care, we also have to ensure that supporting standards, such as those on confidentiality and security, are being met at a local level.

There is a huge programme to modernise the NHS IT infrastructure, which requires extensive local planning and effort and NHS East Midlands is supporting local NHS organisations in this.

The Strategic Health Authority’s IT service is provided by Derbyshire Health Informatics Service which is hosted by Derbyshire County PCT.
