NHS organisations

NHS services are delivered by primary care trusts (PCTs), hospital trusts, mental health trusts, indendent sector treatment centres (ISTCs) and the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Primary Care Trusts

Primary care trusts are responsible for planning and paying for the full range of health services for their respective communities. This includes services delivered by hospitals, GPs, dentists, pharmacists, and mental health trusts. Some PCTs also deliver community services such as district nursing.

Hospital Trusts

Hospital trusts are responsible for managing hospitals, some across a number of different locations. Some hospitals are foundation trusts which are a new type of NHS organisation, established as independent, not for profit public benefit corporations with accountability to their local communities rather than central government control.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (This trust has its headquarters in Doncaster, which falls within the region of NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, but includes a hospital in Bassetlaw, which sits within the geographical boundary of NHS East Midlands)

Mental Health Trusts

Mental health and learnding disabilities trusts are responsible for delivering mental health and learning disabilities services, often across a number of different locations. Some are foundation trusts which are a new type of NHS organisation, established as independent, not for profit public benefit corporations with accountability to their local communities rather than central government control.
